Foster Cwm Taf - Fostering for your Local Authority

Who can foster?

There is not an exact specification that our foster carers need to meet, but here’s a few things that may help decide if fostering is something for you.

A foster carer can be:

  • married or living with a partner
  • of any sexual orientation
  • single – male or female
  • employed or unemployed
  • retired
  • home owners or renting
  • at least 21 years of age

A foster carer will need:

  • a spare room in their home with a bed and bedroom furniture
  • significant experience of caring for a child
  • a reasonable level of physical fitness

You cannot foster:

  • if you are convicted of offences against children or offences of a serious nature (we check all applicants with the Disclosure and Barring Service)
  • if you smoke then you would be unable to foster a child under five or a child with disabilities
